After JCPOA[1] (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) Implementation Day, Iranian ICT market is opening up and it offers untapped opportunities for foreign investment and doing business in telecom, IT, media and vertical markets.

These opportunities are too big to ignore and international investors, solution providers, CSPs and consultants should create a new type of international relations featuring win-win cooperation. There are many opportunities for investing or providing solutions in Iranian telecoms market, including (but not limited to) the following baselines:

  • The sixth five-year development plan (2016-21) is targeting an 8% annual growth and Iran needs $30-50 billion in foreign investments to achieve the 8% growth. Therefore, foreign investment is vital to meet the ambitious target.
  • With recent development of mobile and fixed broadband penetration, Iranian telcos are planning to deploy their networks. It seems that price wars have started. Therefore, Iranian players need to use international experiences for creating innovative services such as value added services and Internet of things.
  • Regarding to global telecom trends, Iranian network providers have many interests for deploying networks such as TD-LTE, FTTx, CDN, IXP, etc.
  • 2016 will be a great year for enhancing competitive environment and fair competition in Iranian mobile and fixed broadband markets. With new CRA[2] strategies on licensing and regulation, it is expected that emerging entrants in mobile and fixed markets such as MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators), FCPs (Fixed Communication Providers), Servcos (Fixed service Providers), VoD (Video on Demand) Providers, Integrators, etc are able to lunch competitive and innovative services.

Therefore, We hope ITC 2016 helps the participants to make an effective community about foreign investment and doing business in telecom, IT, media and vertical markets.
